Greta Garbo was born on 18 September 1905 in the Stockholm (Sweden) as Greta Lovisa Gustafsson. She’s considered as being one of the most magical and popular film stars of the 1920s and 1930s.
Already in those times, she came out for her bisexuality, even if she was mainly lesbian. The American actor John Gilbert once proposed to her, but she left him unanswered. It’s said that Greta Garbo has always had great difficulties with her sexuality; she only started an affair with another woman when she thought she was in complete control over the situation.
On 15 April 1990 Garbo died in New York, surrounded by her family, at the age of 84. But also after her death, the legend Garbo lives on. For her true fans, she has now become a film goddess.
The first name Greta means ‘pearl’, which links our name Pink Pearls Amsterdam to this film diva and example for the entire lesbian community forever.
