Resident DJ at Pink Pearls Parties: DJ ShowBizLiz
Liz Bostock is 45 years old and has been living in Amsterdam for 19 years now, but she was born on the swinging island of Curaçao. Her love for music like soul, jazz, funk, groove and dance therefore mostly originates from her roots.
DJ ShowBizLiz is one of the few female house DJs who started her career at the beginning of the nineties in the Amsterdam Roxy and the COC Amsterdam. In 2011 she still turns the places where she spins upside down with a mix of melodious house grooves with a wink to pop and nu-disco.
Liz and her event agency Laughing Buddha have always been closely involved with the organization of open-minded party’s in Amsterdam, Barcelona, Miami Beach and Paris. She started her music career in 1993, took a break in 2000 and started working on her own songs at her label Buddhavibes in 2011.
DJ ShowBizLiz is also spinning as part of a duo with the female DJ ALX. Together they’re called Twisted Disco Nymphs. Their pop trash, house and techno house mixes are regularly played at Girlesque, Dirty Disco Dykes, De Trut, Prik and the Getto Cocktail Bar (http://www.facebook.com/twisteddisconymphs).
When did your passion for music start?
“I once started with guitar and flute lessons. When I was in university at the end of the eighties, I started at campus as a radio DJ. I could spin all kinds of music there, which is probably how I developed my love for obscure acts like Nine Inch Nails (industrial) and Nina Hagen, and for New York House. This was followed by my desire for soulful house grooves.”
How did your music taste develop after that?
“As a child, I was touched by my dad’s soul, jazz and gospel records. When I lived in America, my attention was drawn to Boy George, Wham!, Eurythmics, Michael Jackson and Grace Jones, especially when MTV came up in the eighties in the US. In the following years, I was captured by the industrial sound and the house sound that was played at warehouse party’s in Dallas.”
What would you still like to do in the future when it comes to music?
“I’d like to spin as long as possible, that’s my absolute passion! At the moment, I’m busy producing music that I want to release on my own label Buddhavibes in 2012. I would also like to play in places like Ibiza, Lesbos and Curaçao.
